Journal: Competitive Sports

2004-2008, 2015-2022

Sports were one of my "gateway" photography subjects. I've always been an active person, so I gravitated towards sports and phys ed classes as a tween. In high school, I didn't have a car so I photographed what I was interested in that was also accessible to me, and then in college, sports photography became a way for me to make some money doing something I already enjoyed.

As a health and exercise science major in college, I had a lot of friends who were athletes, and when I was injured during track practice, sports photography became a way for me to stay connected with my peers and teammates even when I couldn't compete. During my seven year stint working in collegiate athletics and recreation I regularly brought my camera with me to games to photograph student athletes, and I use my camera to pass the time while supporting my husband at mountain bike races whenever he competes. Sports have been such an integral part of my identity for a long time; marrying my passion for sports and photography together only makes sense.
