Following the passing of my father, many friends, family members, and neighbors sent flowers to my house. Last weekend, I took a few hours to photograph some of the beautiful blossoms from the bouquets and potted plants my mom and I had received. I experimented a bit with low depth of field macro photography to emphasize the colors and shapes of each unique petal and blossom. In this particular image, I chose to make all parts of the subject, here a tulip, out of focus, to emphasize the wavy pink and green hues.

Techs: Canon 1D Mark II N, Sigma 150mm f/2.8 Macro, Canon EF-25 II Extension Tube, 1/5s, f/3.2, ISO 100, tripod, mirror lockup, cable release, full frame. To order this print, purchase stock rights, or view other photos I have for sale, please visit my website at www.karipost.com.

Very cool. You’ve inspired me to try some out-of-focus abstracts myself!
