I’m in Texas, but I do have internet access. Today I received an email about my hard drive, so I decided to write a quick blog entry to keep you updated. The data recovery company I sent the hard drive to wrote “We have examined your hard drive and have found that it exhibits symptoms of a severe head crash. Unfortunately our capabilities are not extensive enough to safely perform a recovery attempt in this situation.” They recommended two other companies that might be able to perform the recovery, but I suspect those companies cost significantly more than I can afford at the moment. However, one company offers free pick up from the company my hard drive is currently at, as well as a free evaluation, so I’m sending the drive to them. They will examine the drive and give me a recovery estimate, and then I can decide what to do from there. If they can’t recover the drive or the cost for recovery is too high, then all I have to do is pay for return shipping. Oh well!
