This winter, I am offering private and semi-private workshops at one of New Jersey’s best locations to photograph sea birds in the winter. Barnegat is well know among birders and photographers alike, and is perhaps the best place on the East Coast to photograph the beautiful and entertaining Harlequin Duck. Every year, Barnegat gets a handful of species within easy range for photography, including Harlequins, Longtailed Ducks, Common Loons, Brant, Gulls, Purple Sandpiper, Dunlin, and Ruddy Turnstone. Other possible species include Surf Scoter, Black Scoter, Double-crested Cormorant, Common Eider, Common Merganser, Horned Lark, Snow Bunting, Sanderling, possible Grebes and other sea ducks, and even Harbor Seal and Bottlenose Dolphin. Because the Barnegat Jetty can be a bit treacherous at times, class sizes will be limited to a maximum of three participants, in order to create a safe and productive atmosphere for learning. Please consider joining me for a day of shooting and photography instruction at Barnegat this winter. More information can be found on my website or by emailing me.

Below is a small collection of images I have taken at Barnegat over the past few years. As you can see, the possibilities at this location are fantastic!

This Saturday, I’ll be down in Fairfax, Virginia helping out with the NatureScapes Photography Series event at George Mason University. NSN Publisher Greg Downing and world renowned photographer Rick Sammon will each be presenting. In addition to coffee and breakfast munchies in the morning, plus a free NSN hat for every registrant, I just got word from Greg that there will be a bunch of AWESOME door prizes for the event too, including a Gura Gear Kiboko bag, some bags from Think Tank, and a lot more. I don’t want to give away what all of the prizes will be, but I will tell you that I sure wish I was eligible to win!

If you are interested in attending the seminar and haven’t yet registered, you can still register online or at the door. The included breakfast, excellent speakers, and chance to win some fantastic prizes really make it worthwhile. I’ve seen both Greg and Rick present before, as well as seen them with students in the field, and they are great photographers to learn from. For more information about the November 7th event please visit NatureScapes.Net. Hope to see you there!
