Today Chris and I visited a good friend, fellow nature photographer Eric Dresser. Eric lives on 87 acres of wild habitat in central New York and his property attracts many different kinds of wildlife including a variety of bird species. While sitting in a pair of blinds near one of Eric’s feeders, Chris and I photographed five different species of bird in just a couple of hours today, including four new species for me - Black-capped Chickadee, Hairy Woodpecker, Evening Grosbeak, and the elusive Northern Shrike.

This image is a composite of two separate shots of the same male Evening Grosbeak taken within just seconds of each other. This picture is mostly one where I really liked the pose, but used another frame taken immediately after to clone in some extra canvas (background) and the tip of the tail, which I clipped in the earlier photograph.
Techs: Canon 1D Mark II N, 300mm f/2.8L IS, 1/4x Mark II Extender, 1/250s, f/7.1, ISO 1000. To order this print, purchase stock rights, or view other photos I have for sale, please visit my website at www.karipost.com.

Another gorgeous shot - this would be a lifebird for me, too. Love the colors and exposure here.
