I really like this. The low level is great and DOF is perfect. I also like the overall tones of the image, nice work :)

Matt, thank you for your comment. I'm sorry you interpreted my blog post as negative. I am very critical of my own work and always looking for improvement. In this particular shot, I'm not happy with the angle of the bird as I wish the position was more horizontal to the camera so that the back and tail were visible. I like the low angle and limited DOF, but I realize that a head on shot is less ideal that a side profile would have been. I don't think this is a bad shot, I just think it could be improved upon and I'm hoping to do better with this particular species since I see them every year come winter. If I was really unhappy with it, I would have junked it right away, and I certainly wouldn't have gone through the trouble to process it and post it on my blog.

I'm surprised by your negativity. It's a very nice photo, given the weather conditions we've been dealt recently. Even if you don't think it's ideal I think you should at least let your readers view it and make their own judgments. You might be surprised.

I took a very similar photo myself by spreading out some bird-seed after a recent snowstorm here in Pennsylvania. I wasn't able (um, OK wasn't willing) to get as low to the ground as you've done. I like the angle and the perfectly blurred background.
