New Virginia Photos Plus Snow on the Way!

I’m back in New Jersey now, counting down the days till Chris and I leave for New Hampshire (just 4 days to go).  Tonight, we’re supposed to get quite a bit of snow (4-8 inches), so chances are Chris and I will head out to shoot some wintery scenes tomorrow, as long as the roads aren’t too bad.  Hopefully I’ll get a few nice shots to share before we leave for New England on Sunday.

I’ve also uploaded three new landscape photos from Virginia onto my website.  This shot, of the Potomac River from Great Falls National Park in Virginia, is one I just processed today.  I used Photoshop to manually blend two different exposures, one for the sky and one for the rocks and river, to get the dynamic range shown here.  Blending exposures is a great alternative to using graduated filters, as they allow for precise control over the exposure and allow you to seamlessly blend the sky and foreground in scenes without straight horizons, like this one with the jagged rocks protruding into the sky.
