This is yet another shot from my gannet trip on Sunday. I particularly like the action captured here. These birds are capable of some quite impressive acrobatic maneuvers while flying. I call this shot “Twist and Shout” and I’m sure you can see why.
Techs: Canon 1D Mark II N, 1/2000s, f/6.3, ISO 500. To order [...]

Here’s another recent shot of a Northern Gannet from my trip to the Delaware Bay on Sunday. The mood is a little different than my previous post, but I do have over 1450 photos of them from the day (I took over 2600 and I’ve edited through a small part of the day). I particularly [...]

On Easter Sunday, Chris and I met up with another photography couple, our good friends Kim and Paul, to photograph Northern Gannets feeding on herring migrating through the Delaware Bay. We spent all day photographing the birds and I took over 2600 photos, but it was well worth it, as I got a ton of [...]

Tulips are one of my favorite flowers and also make an excellent subject for photography. Their cup shape blossoms, smooth stems, and large leaves create elegant lines which allow for beautiful abstract compositions emphasizing shape and color. For this photograph, I found a single tulip stem which split in two at the top and each branch [...]

Last weekend, I took a few hours to photograph some of the beautiful blossoms from the bouquets and potted plants my mom and I had received. I experimented a bit with low depth of field macro photography to [...]

In my previous blog post, I briefly mentioned experiencing a recent loss in my family. I also vowed to better explain myself in a future writing, and so, today’s post is about that loss. This is a more personal topic than I usually cover on my blog, but I don’t know how not to address [...]

On Friday, my 400GB SimpleTech external hard drive containing all of my images died. Fortunately, I had most of the RAW files backed up on a separate drive, but needless to say the loss is still pretty upsetting. I drove home to retrieve my backup drive, only to confront a family loss (more on that in [...]

What’s better than spending a morning photographing nature? Doing it with someone you love! I’m fortunate that my boyfriend and I share the same passion for nature and wildlife photography, and this means we get to spend a lot of quality time together out in the woods, sitting in blinds, going on wildlife drives, or [...]

Every once in a while, you just get lucky. Nature photography is no exception, although the nature photographer who just gets lucky won’t have many images on file and none of them will be very good. With nature photography, getting a good shot is more often than not the result of days or weeks or [...]
