"I have chosen to photograph nature because I greatly love and respect nature, because to me every creature is beautiful, everything natural has a story, and every area and living thing man has not touched and had no part in creating is just a little more mysterious and awe inspiring than the rest of the world I know. My goal as a nature photographer is to capture the beauty and essense of the natural world, to share its wonder and mystery with others."

About the Photographer

Kari Post, age 24, was born and raised in northern New Jersey, where she developed an early love for nature and the outdoors.  Although she usually had a camera in hand throughout childhood, it wasn’t until a trip to Australia and New Zealand at age fourteen followed by a couple of introductory photography courses in high school that Kari became passionate about photography.

In her early years as a photographer, Kari focused on the subjects that surrounded her most, sports.  She won several awards for sports photojournalism in high school and college, including the prestigious silver award in the University and College Designers Association contest for her photograph “Pain.”  Shortly afterwards, Kari turned her attention towards photographing her true love, wildlife and the natural world. She now focuses primarily on environmental subjects and images of man interacting with nature.

Kari’s respect and passion for nature are what drives her life and her photography, and her love for the natural world is evident in her photographs.  She enjoys exploring untamed lands and attempting to find the subtle beauty in often overlooked subjects.  An environmentalist and conservationist at heart, Kari is careful to practice minimal impact techniques when out in the field and always keeps the well being of the subject and environment her top priority while shooting.  Her strong desire to preserve and protect natural places and wildlife has motivated Kari to use her images to educate and inspire others, and she enjoys working with non-profit groups and environmental organizations in promoting earth literacy and environmental awareness and responsibility.

Kari’s passion for the outdoors extends far beyond her photography.  She is an avid adventurist, and enjoys a variety of outdoor activities including running, biking, hiking, backpacking, rock climbing, and kayaking.  In 2009, she completed a self-supported bike trip across the United States, living on the road for 109 days while biking from Virginia to Oregon.  Kari prefers to work where she loves to play and has worked as an environmental and adventure educator since 2008.  More than a thousand students have been led by her into the wilderness to explore and learn about all Mother Nature has to offer.

Kari currently lives in the beautiful and rugged state of New Hampshire, where she is pursing a Master’s Degree in Environmental Education.  She works for the nature photography resource and online community NatureScapes.Net in many capacities including editor, writer, forum director, forum moderator, and workshops and events coordinator.
